Forget the free hugs campaign - charge $2 / hug!

Friday, May 29th, 2009

This is absolutely hilarious and amazing. But I must say he’s quite a good (crappy) salesman. But hey, whatever works :) And I’m still wondering what the lady got for $20…

PSA’s internet is so slow, my 56Kbps modem is faster

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

And we're talking about an IT division of almost 300 people. I've spent 1 hour waiting for a 3.5KB (yes, 3,500 BYTES) file to download in order to fix a problem several head of departments are facing in our company wiki.

It just drives me crazy - I swear my lifespan shortens by a minutes for every minute I spend doing some work on the internet here. I think it's a conspiracy to reduce the time employees spend on the internet haha… Seriously, we need to do something about it before it adversely impacts productivity. Or maybe it already is.

Is it just the internet in my company, or is yours like that too?

Get your fundamentalist COOS values out of my elite uncaring face

Friday, May 8th, 2009

John Lui writes a piece I wholeheartedly believe in - don’t impose your values on others.

Thioliban was mentioned on Page 72…

Friday, May 8th, 2009

And I had to look REALLY hard to find that "mention". And to think the Thioliban went on and on and on about it!

What a JOKE of a "mention"!

HyperMac External MacBook Power

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

32 hours of battery life for your MacBook! Wow. But it’s a tad too big though, that one. Good for those that like to work at secular spots for frequent change of environments.

What the Bible Says - And Doesn’t Say - About Homosexuality

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Historically, people’s misinterpretation of the Bible has left a trail of suffering, bloodshed, and death.

Never Fear - The Klan is hereOver the centuries people who misunderstood or misinterpreted the Bible have done terrible things. The Bible has been misused to defend bloody crusades and tragic inquisitions; to support slavery, apartheid, and segregation; to persecute Jews and other non-Christian people of faith; to support Hitler’s Third Reich and the Holocaust; to oppose medical science; to condemn interracial marriage; to execute women as witches; and to support the Ku Klux Klan. Shakespeare said it this way: “Even the devil can cite Scripture for his purpose.”

We’d like to believe that no person of good will would misuse the Bible to support his or her prejudice. But time and time again it has happened with tragic results.

In the 16th century, John Selden pointed at two Latin words carved into a marble wall in an ancient church in Rome: “Scrutamini Scripturas,” which means search the Scriptures. “These two words,” Seldon said, “have undone the world.”

In one way, John Selden was right. Misusing the Bible has drenched the planet in blood and tears.

But in another way, he was wrong. Most people who misuse the Bible DON’T search the Scriptures. They simply find a text that seems to support their prejudice and then spend the rest of their lives quoting (or misquoting) that text.

In the wake of the AWARE - COOS saga, I found this interesting read. IMO it’s worth 5 minutes of your time.

What a day - AWARE EGM on 2nd May

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

I followed the twitterverse via #awaresg from 3pm thru 7pm, before my tummy served notice that if i shut up and sat down in front of the computer further, it was going to complain extremely loudly.

By that time, I had seen so many tweets from so many concerned followers, from topics ranging from throwing high heel shoes to Shut Up and Sit Down tee-shirts and asking Ms Thio when she made a conscious decision to be straight as opposed to homosexual.

Very interesting and exciting day that ended with the Christian fundamentalists from COOS being fired (before they were given the impression that they had the choice to resign, haha).

Three cheers for the old guard of AWARE, for grassroots activism and democrazy!

Full transcript (well almost) and detailed report available from http://wayangparty.com/?p=8732 - don’t miss!
