Passion… of the right kind?
I recently got a ping from a friend on MSN:
AM: heh, love your facebook status. Can feel your passion to quit!
Just for the record my status was:
Garry is serving goddamn time. Give me a strong reason to throw in the towel, please!
AM’s a kindred soul. Like her, I am trapped within the bureaucracies of PSA, unable to struggle free. Trapped within a stupid annual ranking and promotion system and joining the organization at a pathetic time, I face possible promotion only at the 2.5 year mark regardless of what I do. Actually, there’s a possibility at 1.5 years too, but I am not going to risk everything I have for a mere possibility. I. Hate. PSA.
I regret taking up the PSA Scholarship because in return, they treat me like dirt - like free labour. They are not obliged to promote me, or take my opinions into account, simply because I have no choice. They make me do secretarial work without value. They make me take on extra responsibilities simply because “oh, management associates are supposed to be superhuman”, to quote some of my managers, when in fact, such responsibilities are things that the managers are not interested in doing themselves. Responsibilities that really, serve no value to me when I seriously doubt I want to stay with PSA in the long run.
They also aren’t obliged to let me do something that I want, even if there’s a vacancy - that is something I can never understand. Why put me in a you-win-I-lose situation if you don’t have to, even if you can?
To those who think scholarships are great, think again. If you are good, you don’t want to take a scholarship. Believe me. Companies will pay top dollar for you, but your scholarship sponsor will not.
Well AM, like i said, at least you already have your CFA Level 2. I’m still struggling to study for Level 1. Good luck to you.
