Spot The Bands

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Kindly ripped off from Eunice, who got it from someone else anyway :P

Spot the bands! There’s Matchbox 20, and then there’s Guns ‘n’ Roses, and then there’s more! Ok quick, your job! Leave a comment - see who spots the most!

Honestly, I think this is a pretty good buzzmarketing effort by Virgin Music, too. Especially among the circle of people who think they are hardcore music fans. Think about it!

Addicted to Pink Martini

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

My dearest super-pretty, super-kind and super-funny Corinne has kindly lent me her Pink Martini albums. Goodness, is it heaven or is it heaven! I don’t even know how to describe it! Here’s two reviews on iTunes:

Wow. Tasteful and beautifully performed Latin-world-fusion-lounge-jazz. Uncategorizable and impressively multilingual.

This is a great compilation crossing the boundaries of classification. It mixes salsa, jazz, rock, classical, virtually all genres of music. It’s mixes like this that keep the music world exciting…

Sympathique just officially joined the playlist of my all-time favourite songs. :D

830-point Scrabble

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Goodness! How many times have you played Scrabble and gotten a score above 400 points? Not me, never. Ok, so i suck. Haha. But the world record for the past 13 years has been 770, and apparently no one has even come close. And suddenly, a carpenter and his opponent, a supermarket deli counter staff, has broken not 1, not 2, but 3 records in Scrabble history in a single club game!

Most points scored by an individual (830), most points in a single game (1,320), and most points made in a single move (365). Most details in the original story.

Haha, don’t look down on carpenters now, remember the one that came 2006 years ago! ;)

Daniel Powter’s on repeat-one

Friday, October 20th, 2006

Somehow it just strikes a note… :)

Bad Day

Where is the moment we needed the most
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost
They tell me your blue skies fade to grey
They tell me your passion’s gone away
And I don’t need no carryin’ on

Apple’s reliability report card

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

PC users, you have to check these reliability reports out!

You can’t just look at the initial price when buying a laptop… Sometimes, you end up paying more anyway. Plus, the iBooks are really cheap now :)

To love and care - how much is too much?

Monday, October 16th, 2006

I was chatting with a friend when I realized that sometimes, maybe you love and care too much.

So what do I mean? Maybe I’m too idealistic, but I’ve seen instances where the wife hates the husband smoking, but lights it up for him anyway; or the husband hates the wife over-snacking on a particular sweet, but makes sure she has a constant supply anyway. Both do it, because they want to see the other happy more than they want to see it discontinue.

But i’m sure they love each other and want each other to be perfect - no bad habits, y’know? Of course there are some that feel like they really want to help their partners be better people. Help them kick those habits, help them to be the best they can be.

So which is the “right”, or “proper” way to do it?

Or should you be looking more at yourself first? I don’t know.

Happy Birthday, Jennie!

I’d love to meet you again someday. Call me. Meanwhile have a great birthday!

Arrogance, the bane of success

Friday, October 13th, 2006

I’ve been pretty arrogant all my life. I’ve recognized it, tried hard to resist it, but it always resurfaces again. However, after 5 years of conscious fighting against it, it’s a lot better and a lot more managable, and what comes across now is only the subconscious arrogance that many friends describe as an “air of subtle overconfidence” that projects itself indirectly through the implications of my speech, my choice of words, and my actions.

Which, to me, is a huge improvement (you don’t want to know how it was…), and I’m glad.

Because I see arrogance as the bane of success. All successful people are humble in many ways. Either that, or they’re madly talented, and alone at the top. I pray I won’t be one of them.
